Which Stock Brokerage Should I Invest With Online?

Online Stock Brokerages

If you have never invested in the stock market but are thinking about doing so, online discount stock brokerages may be something to consider. They usually only require 500 dollars and up to open an account. The cost or charges for the actual trades can be considerably less than other stock brokerages. The charges can range from 9 dollars to 7 dollars and sometimes even less for a stock trade.

You may have heard of some of the more well know online stock brokerages such as E*Trade or Scottrade. In my experience, one of the biggest differences between some of these online stock brokerages is fees other than the trade fees themselves. Another key difference is if they offer a money market or if they pay any interest on the money you have in your brokerage account.

These fees can definitely cut into your profits, if you are not initially aware of them. They have fees called "reorganization fees". Some of these online brokerages will charge fees, if there is a reverse split on the stock and for other reasons. When deciding on which online brokerage to use, call them up and talk to someone about opening an account and inquire about any and all fees they could possibly charge you in the future. Make a list and compare brokerages.

Some online stock brokerages offer free trades when you first get an account with them and is something to consider. If you plan on opening an account and buying several stocks to start with or you plan on trading a lot, this may be something to consider.

The best advice I can give as far as trading online is to be very careful. The stock market is unforgiving. There have been many stocks in the past that seemed secure but were not. There is a big difference between gambling and trading in the stock market.
