Which vehicle is right for you
What kind of vehicle should you buy? I bought a used 1986 Nissan pickup several years ago. It had 150,000 miles on it when I bought it for 1450.00 $. The title suggested it had 7 previous owners. The odometer that tracks mileage stopped working at 362,000 miles. I am sure I drove that Nissan Pickup well over 1/2 a million miles.
All I ever did to it was buy sets of tires and added a 35$ after market electric fuel pump. I was able to replace the brake pads on it myself. It was the easiest vehicle to work on I ever owned. Parts were available for that truck and inexpensive. On the highway it got 35 mpg. I changed the oil frequently. It is possible to buy a good used car.
There are many things you have to consider when buying a car.If you have children there will be even more considerations, like space and safety. If you need to haul alot of heavy stuff or pull heavy loads, larger vehicles are necessary. If money is no object, by all means buy a Ferrari. If money is a concern, these are my suggestions.Follow these tips and you will be much happier in the long run. They are simple, basic, but very important!
Gas Mileage
With today's technology and powerful and efficient 4 cylinders, a good vehicle should get at least 30 mpg, 35 is even better.
Low Maintenance
What good is good gas mileage if your car is breaking down or the parts are expensive? Finding a reliable vehicle is as important as good gas mileage. I think its best to buy a vehicle that isn't a new production or model. The longer a certain type or model of vehicle has been around, more than likely the parts and service will be less expensive and available.
Low Insurance
The more "sporty" or"expensive" your auto is: be sure to expect higher insurance rates. If it gets great gas mileage and service and parts aren't too expensive but your insurance agent wants an arm and a leg, you have lost your savings. Check with your agent on what it will cost to insure. Remember, a used vehicle usually won't require full coverage.
When purchasing a new vehicle or a vehicle that is used but "new to you". These 3 basic tips, in my opinion will save you the most headaches and disappointments.
ps. That 1986 Nissan Pickup I owned was rear ended and totaled. I was paid one thousand dollars more than I paid for it from the insurance. 6 months later I sold it and it was still running!
