Prevent Credit Card Late Fees Or Get Them Waived
Pay them early
If you are aware of financial institutions reckoning of time, you are aware, that it is nothing like our reckoning of time. They open at 9 and close at 5, but all transactions after certain times don't count until the next day. If you have used the drive up part of a bank before, you may have seen a sign on the window that says just that. Credit card companies are no exception. If your credit card bill is even a minute late, you will get a late fee.
Don't count on your mailman to be able to deliver your mail, instantaneously. The best advice is to consider believing, that your credit card bill is due, a week before it actually is. Sometimes mail gets lost or holidays will slow it down. A good habit of paying early, just might save you a late fee, if you just plain forget. It will give you a little buffer or cushion of time.
If your credit card balance is low or if your credit card balance is high, a late fee is the last thing we need. If the balance is low, you have paid a pretty large penalty compared with the actual amount owed. If you have a lot of credit card debt or you are trying to get out of credit card debt, the last thing you need is a credit card late fee. Get it taken care of a week in advance, because it will be the same period of time between each payment anyway, just always early. This will stop the late fees.
Get them waived
In another article, titled High Credit Card Interest I discussed a possible way of being able to lower your credit card interest rates. Sometimes it can be as simple as calling up your credit card company and asking them to lower your credit card interest rate. It is also possible to have credit card late fees waived, the same way.
If you are in good standing with your credit card company it is possible that they might waive a late fee. Some things to consider before calling your credit card company are if you have always paid on time and have never been late before. Other considerations might be how extreme your credit card balance is.
