Lack of Budgeting Skills, Learning How to Budget
Budgeting Skills
If you spend more than you make, it doesn't matter how much money you can generate, it will never be enough. I think the inability to keep within some sort of budget, is a very common and costly financial mistake. Creating a budget or budget plan can expose weaknesses in your finances, you didn't even know you had and possibly provide solutions.
How many times, throughout our life, have we stopped and wondered exactly where our money went? I know I have. You get paid and after a period of time and before that next paycheck we start to try to figure out where all the money went. We start adding things up and if you are like me, can eventually account for most of the money. Invariably I always come up a few dollars short, even after trying to itemize everything.
At this point it's too late, yet we will still take the time to add it all up. If we are destined or likely to try to account for our money after the fact we would be wiser to track it along the way or even ahead of time. This will have more of a potential positive effect than being broke and scratching our head, later.
Start a budget plan and track every possible expenditure. A good plan for your budget only needs to made once, really. We pretty much pay the same bills and buy the same basic necessities each week or month. Food, rent, entertainment, gas and utilities. If we make a good budget plan once, it's much less work than trying to figure out where it all went to each week or month.
Stay Disciplined
Create a reasonable budget that includes saving money or investing money and stick to it. The biggest key to having a successful budget, in my opinion is discipline. Create a plan that takes care of all your bills and basic needs and includes some saving or investing and make them your priority. Challenge your ability to exercise discipline at keeping to a budget, the money and budget part will come with the discipline.
